The series will dramatize the making of the famous film.

Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is one of the most universally beloved films of all time. From its original premier back in 1972 all the way until today, few people have any bad things to say about the film. However, the making of it, while certainly available somewhere, has never been especially widely circulated. That may change with the release of Paramount’s new docu-drama, The Offer.

The Offer, which will be streaming on Paramount+ on April 28, is a dramatized depiction of the events behind the production of The Godfather, focusing primarily on the film’s director, Al Ruddy, played by Miles Teller. The series will touch on some of the lesser known difficulties that accompanied The Godfather‘s production, ranging from studio pushback based on a lack of interest in gangster movies to genuine threats of violence from real life mafia families. According to Teller, The Offer will be a Shakespearean drama depicting the American Dream in action, as well as the importance of family, which is a fitting message for anything adjacent to The Godfather.

The Offer went through a brief period of developmental purgatory after its announcement in 2020 when Armie Hammer, who was originally slated to play Ruddy, had to leave production on the heels of several accusations from women who received predatory messages from him. Additionally, production was halted back in September when Teller tested positive for COVID-19, though he has since recovered.
