Formula 1 has officially revealed the six grands prix that will feature the exciting sprint race format for the 2025 season. These thrilling shorter races, held on Saturdays before the main event on Sundays, have proven to be a hit among fans and will return at select venues next year.

The 2025 sprint race calendar includes:

  • China: 21-23 March
  • Miami: 2-4 May
  • Belgium: 25-27 July
  • US Grand Prix (Austin): 17-19 October
  • Brazil: 7-9 November
  • Qatar: 28-30 November

China, Miami, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar are all familiar with the sprint format from this year’s schedule, while Belgium last hosted a sprint in 2023. The upcoming season will commence in Australia on 14-16 March.

Formula 1 has shared data indicating the increasing popularity of sprint events. The live audience figures for the sprint in qualifying and sprint in China this year were 40% higher across F1’s top 15 markets compared to the average practice sessions for the opening two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

F1 Chairman Stefano Domenicali commented, “The sprint has been a great success for Formula 1, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track. We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays, and from the promoters and partners.”

As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary next season, Domenicali emphasized that the sprint format exemplifies the sport’s commitment to innovation while honoring its rich heritage.

“There will be no changes next year to the new sprint format introduced this season,” added Domenicali. F1 bosses have discussed potential modifications but have decided to revisit these talks at a later date without any immediate changes planned.

The current format, introduced in 2024, separates the sprint from the main grand prix. Qualifying for the sprint occurs on Friday afternoon, with the sprint race taking place as the first event on Saturday. The grid for the main grand prix is determined by a separate qualifying session later on Saturday, followed by the grand prix on Sunday.

The sprint race format continues to captivate audiences, adding another layer of excitement to the Formula 1 experience. Fans can look forward to more action-packed weekends in the 2025 season.
