Howard Stern Extends Show Contract

The Howard Stern Show will remain on the air for another five years.

While not a musician himself, Howard Stern is a regular face at major music industry events. You can usually spot him at the Grammys and Induction Ceremonies for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He’s a pretty big deal, to say the least, even earning himself the nickname of “King of All Media.” He seems to be enjoying his success, and with today’s announcement, it doesn’t look like he’s stopping any time soon.


Stern’s broadcasting partner, SiriusXM satellite radio, announced today that the contract for The Howard Stern Show has been extended by another five years. While the exact earnings for this extension have not been disclosed, Stern makes around $100 million a year on his current contract, so it’s a safe bet he’ll be continuing in that same ballpark.

During Tuesday’s show, Stern took a moment to look back on his career, confirming to himself that his transfer from regular radio stations to SiriusXM. “Fifteen years ago, I joined SiriusXM, a fledgling group of broadcasters,” Stern said during a segment of his show Tuesday. “I had been in a toxic relationship with terrestrial radio. And no matter how well I treated the medium, no matter how successful I made them, they abused me. Going to SiriusXM liberated me.”

While other entertainment mediums have been scrambled to varying degrees by the pandemic, satellite radio seems to be holding relatively steady. SiriusXM reported its Q3 earnings back in October, showing a modest 1% improvement, though advertising revenue, especially from services like Pandora, fell slightly.
