Olivia Newton-John to be Memorialized in Australia

This week saw the passing of beloved singer, actor, and performer Olivia Newton-John, best known for her role in classic film Grease. Newton-John passed at the age of 73 of spinal cancer at her Southern California ranch. Since her passing, fans have memorialized Newton-John both online and in real life, with numerous people offering well-wishes to her surviving family.

Following her death, Dan Andrews, the Premier of Victorian state in Australia, spoke with Newton-John’s family, offering them an official state-sponsored memorial service, which they accepted. “It will be more of a concert than a funeral – fitting for a Victorian who lived such a rich and generous life,” Andrews explained in an announcement on his personal Twitter.

While the precise details of the memorial service have yet to be finalized, Australian citizens seem excited by the prospect. Recently, the famous Sydney Opera House, lit its iconic roof in pink lights in Newton-John’s honor, particularly in regards to her contributions to cancer research.

After Newton-John passed, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre issued a statement, saying that Newton-John’s “generous support and gift provided hope and changed the lives of thousands of cancer patients.”
