The Cleveland Brown’s wide receiver is down for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns played against the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a pretty ordinary game for the most part, though unfortunately, when it comes to football, there’s a certain assumption of physical injury with “ordinary.” Our unlucky recipient of said injury was Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

During the first quarter of the game, Browns QB Baker Mayfield threw a pass to Beckham, but the pass was intercepted by Bengals cornerback Darius Phillips. Beckham gave chase and attempted to tackle him, but when he jumped over another Bengals player to keep up, he hit the ground hard, clutching his knee. Shortly after the game, sports reporter Josina Anderson tweeted that she had received a text from Beckham informing her that he had torn his ACL. The Browns announced immediately afterward that Beckham had been incapacitated, and will be off the field for the remainder of the 2020 season.

On the bright side, thanks to some particular language in Beckham’s contract, the team can’t cut him for missing large swaths of game time. Part of Beckham’s contract is a $12.971 million guarantee for all injuries, which then converts to a full guarantee if he’s back on the roster by the third day of the league year. Since Beckham probably won’t be back up to snuff by March, when this conversion would occur, he’s getting paid no matter what.

It is unfortunate, though; this isn’t actually the first time Beckham has sustained a career-pausing injury. Back in 2017, an ankle fracture caused him to miss a large part of the season, and in 2018, a quad injury cost him his place in the final four. Beckham’s been hoping to redeem himself for this injuries in 2020, but it looks like he’ll have to wait a little longer.
