Nikola Jokic’s “Mental Breakdown” After NBA Championship
Nikola Jokic, the star player of the Denver Nuggets, has experienced a whirlwind journey through the NBA Playoffs, culminating in a well-deserved NBA Championship and Finals MVP title. However, amidst the celebrations, Jokic strongly desires to return home.
Following the game, Jokic shared his concerns about being able to attend a horse race over the weekend, potentially conflicting with the championship parade scheduled for Thursday. During a postgame NBA TV panel, he humorously mentioned his intention to request a plane from Josh Kroenke, the Vice Chairman of the Nuggets, stating that he felt no remorse in doing so. This wasn’t the only instance where Jokic expressed his desire to go home after Denver’s Game 5 victory against the Miami Heat.
During an on-court interview with ESPN, Jokic confidently declared, “The job is done; we can go home now.” Furthermore, when asked about his excitement for the upcoming parade during a press conference, he simply replied, “No. I need to go home,” upon discovering the tentative date for the Nuggets’ celebration.

Jokic’s longing to return home stems from his deep affection for horses. During the offseason, he spends significant time tending to his stable of over half a dozen horses in Serbia, where he also accepted his 2021-22 NBA MVP award.
Throughout the NBA Finals, Jokic showcased his incredible skills, averaging 30.2 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 7.2 assists over the five-game series against the Miami Heat. His remarkable performance made him the first player in NBA history to lead the league in points, rebounds, and assists in a single postseason. Given the magnitude of his achievement, it is understandable that he is now eager to retreat to the comfort of his home and enjoy some well-deserved rest.
As the NBA celebrates Jokic’s outstanding playoff performance, it is clear that he is mentally ready for a break. His dominant presence on the court throughout the Finals has solidified his legacy as a remarkable player.
