Nicolas Cage’s Son Weston Coppola Cage Arrested on Charges of Felony Assault
Weston Coppola Cage, the eldest son of acclaimed actor Nicolas Cage, was arrested on Wednesday, July 10, on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, confirmed by an LAPD spokesperson to Entertainment Weekly.
Weston surrendered to the city’s 77th division following an incident on April 28, where he allegedly assaulted two victims, resulting in significant injury. The LAPD responded to the scene and completed a report, leading to the District Attorney filing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon against Weston. This resulted in a felony warrant for his arrest.
According to police records obtained by PEOPLE, Weston was booked at 7:57 a.m. local time and was later released on a $150,000 bond at 9:50 a.m.
While the LAPD has not directly confirmed whether the April 28 incident involved Weston’s altercation with his mother, Christina Fulton, representatives for both Weston and Fulton have not responded to requests for comment.
Christina Fulton addressed the incident shortly after it occurred, stating, “On Sunday, April 28th, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis. I acted swiftly to ensure his safety. Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.” Fulton emphasized her ongoing support for her son, saying, “I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs.”
Weston has been open about his struggles with substance abuse and was previously arrested for a DUI in 2017. The musician and actor has appeared in several of his father’s films, making his big-screen debut in 2005’s Lord of War and most recently featuring in 2024’s The Night They Came Home.
Weston is Nicolas Cage’s only child with Christina Fulton. Cage also has a 19-year-old son, Kal-El, with his third wife, Alice Kim, and a 1-year-old daughter, August Francesca, with his current wife, Riko Shibata.
