Molly Shannon Joins Will Ferrell in Netflix’s Upcoming Golf Comedy

The actress says working with Will Ferrell again feels like coming home.

Two Saturday Night Live favorites are ready to bring their comedic magic back to the screen. The popular actress Molly Shannon has now officially joined Will Ferrell in the upcoming untitled golf comedy series on Netflix. The streaming giant confirmed this news. Netflix added that Ferrell will star as a fictional golf legend and Shannon will play a character named Stacy.

There is a powerhouse team behind this series. Ferrell, Alix Taylor, and Jessica Elbaum will executive-produce under Gloria Sanchez Productions. On the other hand, Rian Johnson, Nena Rodrigue, and Ram Bergman will produce for T-Street. Other executive producers are Chris Henchy, David Gordon Green, Harper Steele, and Andrew Guest.

This isn’t the first time Shannon and Ferrell are going to team up. Their partnerships and sharing a big screen go all the way back to the mid-90s when both actors joined SNL. Shannon joined SNL in season 20, and Ferrell joined SNL in season 21.

Together, they delivered memorable sketches such as “Dog Show” and “Dr. Beaman’s Office.” Even Ferrell also appeared in the debut of Shannon’s iconic Mary Katherine Gallagher character. Later, he played the same role in her 1999 film Superstar.

Shannon and Ferrell’s big-screen collaborations are Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, A Night at the Roxbury, and Casa De Mi Padre. They also played fictional broadcasters Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan for the Rose Parade and the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Recently, Molly Shannon appeared in Ferrell’s documentary Will and Harper, and both actors also performed together during SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

The upcoming projects of Shannon are the comedies Balls Up and Driver’s Ed and the romance People We Meet on Vacation. Ferrell is also working on several films. They include Gus Van Sant’s The Prince of Fashion, Tough Guys with Ryan Gosling, and the action-comedy Judgment Day with Zac Efron and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
