MLB Lockout Officially Ends
After 99 days, the lockout has finally been settled.
For over three months now, Major League Baseball has been in the midst of a nasty lockout. MLB officials were unable to reach a new agreement on player contracts and salaries with the MLB Player’s Association, leading to a lengthy work stoppage on both sides. Thankfully, as of yesterday, an amiable agreement was finally reached by both parties, and the lockout is officially over.
“One of the things that I’m supposed to do is promote a good relationship with our players,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said during a news conference. “I’ve tried to do that. I think that I have not been successful in that. I think that it begins with small steps. It’s why I picked the phone up after the ratification and called Tony and expressed my desire to work with him. It’s gonna be a priority of mine moving forward to try to make good on the commitment I made to him on the phone.”

“Our union endured the second-longest work stoppage in its history to achieve significant progress in key areas that will improve not just current players’ rights and benefits, but those of generations to come,” Union leader Tony Clark said in his own statement. “Players remain engaged and unified from beginning to end, and in the process reenergized in our fraternity.”
With the lockout over, players have been called on to report for spring training sessions starting this Sunday. The new season of baseball will begin a week later than usual on April 7.
