Boss labels situation internal; concerns arise over player’s performance and off-field conduct.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has commented on Marcus Rashford’s absence from their FA Cup fourth-round victory at Newport, labeling it an “internal matter.” The England forward reportedly missed training at United on Friday due to illness.

However, media reports have suggested that Rashford was seen in nightspots in Northern Ireland on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings. When questioned about Rashford’s absence and its handling as an internal matter, Ten Hag reiterated that it is an internal issue for the club to address.

Former Newcastle and England forward Alan Shearer commented on the situation, expressing concern for Rashford’s well-being and career trajectory, emphasizing the need for strong management to guide him.

Rashford, known for his talent and contributions to United, scored 30 goals in all competitions last season and signed a new contract with the club in the summer. However, he has struggled to replicate his previous form this season, raising questions about his recent performances and off-field activities.

This is not the first time Ten Hag has faced challenges regarding players’ off-field conduct this season. Earlier issues included Mason Greenwood’s future at the club and allegations against Brazil winger Antony. Jadon Sancho’s omission from a game led to a fallout, resulting in his loan move back to Borussia Dortmund.

If disciplined, this would not be the first time Rashford has faced consequences under Ten Hag’s management. He was previously dropped from the starting lineup after being seen celebrating his birthday following a defeat to Manchester City and was benched for oversleeping and being late to a team meeting.
