Fans say Kylie’s new “King Kylie” promo looks out of touch.
Kylie Jenner is once again making headlines, and this time it’s for her latest beauty promo that many people found a little too much.
The 28-year-old star recently uploaded a short video on Instagram to promote her new King Kylie Cosmetics line. However, the concept behind the promo video didn’t sit well with everyone.
In the video clip, Kylie is seen handcuffed and walking down a jail hallway surrounded by two police officers. She’s wearing a black leather bra and matching mini shorts that have silver chains chained at the hips. She completed the look with fishnet tights, chunky silver jewelry, and black heels. Her teal-streaked hair reminded her social media viewers of her bold “King Kylie” phase from years ago.
The video ends with the words “King Kylie. Tomorrow.” It hints that her new makeup collection is coming soon. Some fans were excited to see her bring back that confident, edgy vibe. Hailey Bieber commented “exactly,” while Lauren Sánchez dropped a praise emoji. Many other people wrote “King Kylie is back!” in the comments.
But not everyone was thrilled. Many people online said the jail theme was totally insensitive and poorly timed. Real news about police violence and immigration raids is happening right now, and she is adding that trend to this promo video.
One Reddit user wrote, “People are getting arrested unfairly and Kylie thinks being handcuffed is a fashion statement?” Another person said, “She’s completely out of touch.”
Some people also compared the situation to Kendall Jenner’s 2017 Pepsi ad. That Pepsi ad had also faced a lot of backlash due to its insensitivity. Fans said Kylie should have learned from that mistake.
So far, Kylie hasn’t said anything about the growing criticism, and her team hasn’t released a statement either.
