Kylie Jenner Under Fire for GoFundMe Donation
People are less willing to pay for something you can easily cover yourself.
Recently, celebrity makeup artist Samuel Rauda, the personal makeup artist of Kylie Jenner, was severely injured in an accident, requiring him to undergo surgery. In an effort to support him, Jenner boosted a GoFundMe page organized by Rauda’s family with a $120,000 goal that would go toward paying his medical bills.
“May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel everyone take a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his families go fund me,” Jenner wrote in a now-removed Instagram post.
Now, here’s the problem with this: it’s a nice gesture, certainly, but Kylie Jenner has a net worth of over $700 million. She could easily pay off that entire sum and would probably make it back almost immediately. In fact, according to my math, she could pay that sum five thousand times over and still have cash left over. This is why many Twitter users found it strange that she only donated $5,000 to the campaign, to say nothing of boosting the campaign at all instead of just footing the bill herself.
As a result of her post, Jenner began trending on Twitter as users took her to task for her questionable financial habits, especially in a time when so many people are in dire economic straits.
There’s absolutely nothing to defend her for. She should pay the bill & stop asking for money to people who are probably broke after 1 year living on unemployment.

Kylie Jenner makes almost half a million dollars everyday and she is still asking her relatively poor fans to pay for her friends $60,000 medical bills? Eat the rich. pic.twitter.com/mxUzRsmgEn

It’s not even about the fact that she won’t pay for the surgery herself. Every single last one of Kylie Jenner’s sisters is a millionaire. Her parents are millionaires. Her friends are millionaires. But she asked the MIDDLE CLASS for money. This family…… pic.twitter.com/zFqeeBvuY3

In spite of Jenner’s questionable decisions, the GoFundMe campaign did garner some respectable support. At time of writing, the campaign has raised 99,344 between just 321 donors.
