Joel Embiid To Receive MRI after Nasty Fall
Embiid took a hard spill in Monday’s game.
The confusing thing about the human body is that, even if you’re in objectively fantastic shape, there are certain things that can prove debilitating for all of us. You can have the beefiest legs in the world, but all it takes is one hard fall on the knee to potentially disable you for days, weeks, months, or years. Hopefully, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers won’t have to go through that, but we’ll need to make sure first.
During Monday night’s game between the 76ers and the Washington Wizards, Embiid made a run for the basket late in the first quarter. He attempted to go for a dunk, but was intercepted and knocked out of the air by the Wizards’ Robin Lopez. After he missed his dunk, Embiid landed at a hard, awkward angle on his right heel and back. After a brief timeout to ensure he was okay, Embiid managed to finish out the first quarter, but when his knee started hurting, he had to be benched for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, despite being in the lead at the start, the 76ers ultimately lost the game 122-114.
“Once Jo came out, we weren’t moving the ball as well,” said 76ers guard Ben Simmons. “We didn’t get enough easy looks.”

Embiid was limping when he left the game for the locker room, and at time of writing, the precise extent of his injury isn’t known. He’ll be undergoing an MRI today, while his participation in Wednesday’s fifth game against the Wizards remains in doubt.
While Embiid is definitely a necessity for the team to go the distance for the season, his teammates believe they can keep things afloat until he recovers. “We’re going to need him to be the last team standing, to win,” 76ers guard Danny Green said. “It doesn’t mean we can’t win the next game without him.”
