Halle Berry Reveals Extensive Injuries from Action Films: “I’ve Broken 10 Bones and Been Knocked Out Three Times”

Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has candidly shared the physical toll her action-packed film career has taken on her body. In a recent interview with Netflix, tied to her upcoming film The Union, Berry detailed the extent of her injuries, revealing she has broken at least ten bones and been knocked out three times during her time working on action films.

Berry, known for her roles in Catwoman and Bruised, listed her injuries as follows: “Arm broken, broke ribs twice — two ribs one time, three ribs another time — broke tailbone, broke two toes and [my middle] finger.” Her costar, Mark Wahlberg, expressed his astonishment at the litany of injuries as she recounted them. Wahlberg, while not matching Berry’s list in severity, humorously noted his own injuries, including a torn meniscus and a separated shoulder.

The actress also spoke about some of the extreme stunts she has performed, including holding her breath underwater for nearly two and a half minutes while filming Dark Tide. Berry described the experience as feeling “like death was imminent.”

Throughout her career, Berry has also acquired a range of skills, from jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai to capoeira, which she studied for her role in Catwoman. Wahlberg revealed his own diverse skill set, which includes crochet, ballet, and tango dancing.

Berry’s dedication to her craft was particularly evident during the filming of Bruised in 2021. Despite sustaining broken ribs, she chose to continue working through the pain rather than pause production. “On [Bruised], because it was an independent movie, we didn’t have a big budget. The director in me said, ‘I didn’t come this far and work this hard to go home,’” she explained.

In The Union, Berry stars alongside Wahlberg in a high-stakes adventure where she plays Roxanne, a high school sweetheart who pulls her former love, Mike (Wahlberg), into the world of espionage.
