Netflix recently unveiled the cast details for the highly anticipated second season of “Squid Game,” which disappointed some fans due to the absence of women in the new casting lineup.

The reveal of the season 2 cast featured a mix of returning and new faces. Familiar characters such as Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), the enigmatic “Front Man” (played by Lee Byung-hun), and detective Hwang Jun-ho (played by Wi Ha-jun) are set to make a comeback. Gong Yoo, who played the mysterious recruiter in the first season, will also be featured in the sequel.

In addition, the teaser trailer showcased several established South Korean actors who will be joining the cast. This includes Yim Si-wan, a former K-pop idol who has transitioned into a versatile actor, and Park Sung-hoon, known for his villainous role in Netflix’s popular K-drama “The Glory.” Kang Ha-neul, celebrated for his performance in the romantic comedy “When the Camellia Blooms,” and actor-rapper Yang Dong-geun, recognized for his work in the historical drama “The Forbidden Marriage,” were also highlighted. However, the press release did not disclose specific details about their characters.

While the introduction of new actors generated excitement, many fans expressed their dismay over the lack of women in the casting announcement. Social media platforms buzzed with comments lamenting the absence of female representation in the upcoming season. Tweets and Instagram comments echoed sentiments like, “This is an amazing cast, but it’s wild that not a single woman is featured,” and “One of the best things about the first season was the female actress, so why no females in this cast?”

Fortunately, Netflix addressed these concerns and assured fans that leading female characters will be revealed in upcoming casting news. A spokesperson for Netflix told Insider, “This was the first cast announcement for ‘Squid Game’ season two. We’re excited to share more casting news soon, which will include the leading female characters.”

Production for the highly anticipated second season is scheduled to commence later this year, under the direction and executive production of Emmy-winning director Hwang Dong-hyuk, as stated in a press release on June 17. As fans eagerly await further updates, the inclusion of prominent female characters in the upcoming casting news is expected to alleviate their disappointment and reignite excitement for the next chapter of the gripping series.
