Noah will end his tenure on the show at the end of the year.

Two weeks ago, comedian and host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, surprised both the show’s audience and his own coworkers with the admission that he was preparing to depart from the show. Noah has a plan of departure in mind, though he didn’t immediately share it either publicly or with the Paramount Global execs, leading to a bit of uncertainty.

This week, though, Noah clarified what his departure from the show will look like. His final episode as the host of the Daily Show will be released on December 8. This means that he’ll still be with the show long enough to cover the midterm elections. In the leadup to the last episode, the show will also be showcasing a series of Noah’s best moments during his stint as the host starting on December 5.

“Chris [McCarthy] has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family,” Noah said in a statement. “I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.”

“Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” added Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios.

As for who will take Noah’s place when the show resumes in January, that has not yet been decided. However, ViacomCBS does maintain a stable of entertainers and personalities they can call on when talk hosts are unavailable, so there is a distinct possibility one of them will be called upon, at least in an interim role.
