Daiquiri Disaster The Lonely Island’s Funniest SNL Fumble
The Lonely Island Never Fails to Amaze Their Audience
Every Saturday Night Live fan knows the show can be hit or miss. But for The Lonely Island—Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone—one digital short stands out as a hilariously awkward flop: Daiquiri Girl.
The bizarre clip aired on April 12, 2008, during an episode hosted by Ashton Kutcher. The group had originally planned a skit featuring Gnarls Barkley, but when the duo canceled last-minute, the team scrambled to create a replacement. What emerged was a low-budget music video featuring Samberg as Clementine, crooning absurd lyrics to a daiquiri:

“When I first met you, you were not a daiquiri. Then you went and had a scientific discovery. One part rum, two parts ice. Three parts love. You are so nice.”
Filmed to look like a grainy ’90s home video, the short also included an on-screen apology for its existence. Years later, The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers rewatched it and cringed. “We thought it would never air,” Samberg admitted, laughing at the improvised song’s nonsensical lyrics.
While Daiquiri Girl wasn’t a hit, it’s since become a legendary reminder of SNL’s chaotic creativity. Even the flops have a place in comedy history.
