Cardi B is Divorcing Offset
The rapper couple is going their separate ways.
The marriage of Cardi B and Offset was one of the biggest celebrity relationships of the last decade. Cardi’s got more hit singles and Grammys than any other female rapper, and Offset is an influential musician both as a solo act and as part of several different groups and collaborations. They’ve got some serious star power between them, which is why it’s unfortunate that relationship is officially going down the tubes.
Cardi B officially filed for divorce with Offset at an Atlanta, Georgia courthouse on Tuesday. While she reportedly wants to keep the whole process amenable, likely for the sake of her 2-year-old daughter, her relationship with Offset has become, in her own words, “irretrievably broken,” and there are “no prospects for a reconciliation.” The two of them will be appearing in court for the official divorce hearing on November 4.
No one’s quite sure which straw broke the camel’s back, but Cardi and Offset have been dealing with some serious rocky patches over the course of their three years of marriage. Rumors circulated back in 2017 that Offset was cheating on Cardi, and when asked her thoughts, she said “No, it’s not right … But what you want me to do? Start all over again and get cheated on again? This s— happens to everyone.”
The two temporarily separated back in December of 2018, with Cardi saying “Things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time … we just grew out of love.”
Offset responded to this with a plea of reconciliation, saying “I was partaking in activity that I shouldn’t have been partaking in, and I apologise. For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband.” After that, the two got back together in January of 2019.
No word yet on what the custody situation will be for their daughter, Kulture Kiari.
