Blue Jays to Play at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park

In lieu of their usual turf, Pittsburgh will be the Blue Jays’ home away from home.

Normally, the Toronto Blue Jays would play their home games at the Rogers Centre in Ontario. Well, normally a viral pandemic isn’t fiercely gripping the entire United States. Due to the high concentration of COVID-19 cases in the US, Canada has decided it wouldn’t be safe to have the Blue Jays constantly flying back and forth between countries for games, which means they can’t play at the Rogers Centre. It’s bad enough that every other team in the league will have to play a shorter season without fans in the stands, but now the Blue Jays are homeless. Thankfully, Pennsylvania has offered a helping hand.


According to SportsNet’s Hazel Mae, Pittsburgh has offered the use of their PNC Park for the Blue Jays to play their home games at. The Blue Jays will be sharing the field with the Pittsburgh Pirates, whose schedules actually match up surprisingly well with the Blue Jays’. The two team managers, Charlie Montoyo for the Blue Jays and Derek Shelton for the Pirates, are both in good spirits on the arrangement, with the former expressing excitement at playing at PNC Park and the latter saying that the Pirates are more than happy to share.

The Blue Jays will play their first away game of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays this Friday. After that, they have a series of away games until September 7, when they have a home game scheduled against the New York Yankees, though in the interest of convenience, they may just hang around in New York and play there.
