He is, however, in the hospital.

Yesterday, rumors began to circulate that rapper Biz Markie, the “Clown Prince of Hip-Hop,” had suddenly passed away from unspecified complications. This prompted a wave of grief from his fans on Twitter, as well as condolences to his family and friends. The only thing is, he’s not actually dead, and those around him would really like everyone to stop saying he is.

“The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true,” his rep wrote in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best healthcare possible.”

While Biz isn’t dead, though, he is in the hospital. The rep didn’t specify what his affliction was, but whatever it was, it was apparently severe enough to warrant a monitored stay. Even if it’s not for a correct reason, his family does appreciate the kind words.

“Biz’s wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers and fans alike,” his rep said on Thursday. “At this time, we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Biz has had a bumpy history when it comes to his personal health. Back in 2010, he was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes, though he took the affliction seriously and made major overhauls to his life and health. “I wanted to live,” he told ABC News in 2014. “Since I have to be a diabetic, If I didn’t make the changes, it was going to make the diabetes worse. I’m trying to get off [the diabetes meds]. The way you gotta do it is lose the weight. I’m off half my meds, I just got to get off the rest … [The doctors] said I could lose my feet. They said I could lose body parts. A lot of things could happen.”
