‘Avatar 2’ to Resume Filming
Oh yeah, this is a thing that’s happening.
Okay, real talk: I completely forgot they were making a sequel to Avatar. Honestly, if it weren’t for the ride at Universal and the fact that people always bring it up in conversations about The Last Airbender, I’d probably have forgotten about Avatar entirely. But yeah, they’re working on a sequel, though they’ve been on break recently due to the whole, y’know, pandemic thing. Apparently, though, James Cameron has decided it’s been long enough.
Producer Jon Landau announced today that Avatar 2 would be resuming filming shortly, and shared several pictures of the cast and crew in mid-production. If you’re wondering how they’re able to do this while the pandemic is still going on, it’s because they’re filming in New Zealand. New Zealand has been one of the biggest COVID-19 success stories since the pandemic started, officially getting their cases down to a manageable level in the last month. It probably also helps that’s a relatively small island nation.
Avatar 2 is now a trendsetter as the first major Hollywood production to resume work since the pandemic started in earnest. A lot of films and shows have been forced to delay, and the entertainment industry has taken quite a hit. But hey, if the first Avatar is any indication, the sequel will make enough money to recoup losses ten times over.
