In a significant development in the legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Judge Lia Martin has ruled that Jolie must produce all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she created or agreed to from 2014 to 2022. This decision is a pivotal moment in the lawsuit concerning the sale of their joint winery, Château Miraval.

The NDAs have become a crucial point of contention in the case. Pitt initially filed the lawsuit claiming that Jolie sold her half of Château Miraval to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, despite previously agreeing to sell it to Pitt. Jolie’s team counters that she withdrew from the agreement after Pitt’s team requested she sign an NDA as part of the sale.

A source close to Pitt’s legal team stated that this ruling is a significant setback for Jolie, potentially weakening her central defense. Jolie’s legal team argues that the proposed NDA from Pitt was excessively broad, covering personal misconduct unrelated to the winery. They described it as an attempt to control and silence Jolie regarding various personal matters.

In response, Pitt’s team asserted that the NDA was intended to protect the reputation of the Miraval brand. Jolie’s filings claim that the inclusion of the NDA was intended to prevent her from discussing personal issues related to Pitt.

The ruling requires Jolie to turn over eight years of NDAs, following Pitt’s argument that these documents would demonstrate the comparability and fairness of the proposed NDA. Jolie’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, responded that while they are willing to comply, the judge’s decision underscores the relevance of Pitt’s conduct and opens the door to comprehensive discovery on all related issues.

“Common NDAs are simply not comparable to Mr. Pitt’s last-second demand to try and cover up his personal misconduct,” said Murphy. “We are more than happy to turn them over and we are gratified that the Court acknowledged that the only potential relevance is to the unconscionability of Mr. Pitt’s conduct, a now confirmed key issue in this case. The judge’s ruling completely opens the door to discovery on all issues related to Pitt’s behavior. We welcome that transparency in all parties’ discovery responses, including Mr. Pitt’s. Angelina looks forward to the eventual end of this litigation with its false narratives that continue to hurt the family and interfere with their ability to heal.”
