‘Almost Famous’ Ending Run on Broadway
The show will end performances in January.
Almost Famous is a stage musical based on the 2000 Cameron Crowe film of the same name. It follows teenage writer William Miller (a character based on Crowe himself) traveling the country with a rock band as he composes his story on the rock n’ roll lifestyle.
The musical has been running for several months on Broadway stages, but due to a combination of middling reviews and an overabundance of shows brought about by the return of the stage from its COVID dormancy, its run is coming to an end. The show’s producers announced that their final performance will be held on January 8 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
“Almost Famous, like the music it celebrates, will endure,” the producers said in a joint statement. “We look forward to the release of the cast recording on March 17, and to the many productions in communities across the country and world, for years to come.”

In a May interview with PEOPLE Magazine, the show’s lead composer, Tom Kitt, spoke fondly about both working on the show and his time coordinating with Crowe. “[Writer-director Cameron Crowe] is just the sweetest, most kind human being, and full of inspiration,” said Kitt. “That story is obviously a personal one for him, so I feel incredibly honored to get to tell that story with him.”
