The MVP has had his fill of cheese hats.

Aaron Rogers is the MVP of the Green Bay Packers, and rightfully so. As their quarterback, he made a good 48 touchdowns in the 2020 season, and they’re lucky to have him. Unfortunately, it seems that luck has run out, as Rogers has apparently told the Packers to lose his number.

League and team sources have told ESPN that Rogers isn’t interested in remaining with the Packers next season, apparently due to being disgruntled with their treatment of him. The Packers’ owners and managers have each been meeting privately with Rogers over the course of the season to try and talk him down, but apparently, he hasn’t budged.

“As we’ve stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond,” general manager Brian Gutekunst told ESPN. “Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team.”

Other teams have caught wind of Rogers’ disgruntlement and have begun making trading inquiries with the Packers to see if they can snap him up for next year. All of these requests have been summarily shot down.

“You’re talking about the MVP of our league last year,” San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said. “Yeah, we inquired. It was a quick in to the conversation (but) it wasn’t happening. As we said, we have been convicted and excited for a long, long time, so we went right back to where we’ve been and that’s really excited about adding Trey Lance to the 49ers, and we’re thrilled about that.”

As for what precisely rubbed Rogers the wrong way, there’s no single definitive cause. One moment of friction came last year when the Packers neglected to inform him that they were trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick, which Rogers viewed as rather disrespectful to his place on the team. Beyond that, all we really have to go on is cryptic complaints picked up by his teammates. Whether he’ll stay or walk still remains to be seen.
