It’s nice to have consistent presentations again.

Nintendo has become the modern master of surprise reveals. Many of their Direct presentations over the last few years have had a moment where they showcase a new game or a new Super Smash Bros. character and follow it up with “and it’s releasing today!” Today, though, Nintendo has taken this practice a step further and announced the entire presentation only a day in advance. Start your engines, kids, it’s time for rampant speculation.

Nintendo announced on their Twitter that they’ll be livestreaming a new Nintendo Direct presentation on their official YouTube channel on Thursday, September 23, at 3:00 PM Pacific time, 6:00 PM Eastern. The presentation will last about 40 minutes and will feature information on games launching in the winter season. Considering the winter season is also the holiday season, i.e. the time game publishers save up all of their best ammo for, we could be in for some major reveals here.

Naturally, the actual contents of the presentation beyond that vague teaser are unknown, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill. Recently, a rumor began to circulate that Nintendo may start offering a library of Game Boy games as part of their Nintendo Switch Online service, with a separate rumor going as far as to suggest a collection of Nintendo 64 games. There may also be some more information on games we already know about, such as November’s Shin Megami Tensei V, though some are holding out hope for some of the big names to make an appearance, such as the still-unnamed sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

At the center of the rumor mill once again is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We’re still waiting on the identity of the very last DLC fighter included with Fighter’s Pass 2. Theories run the gamut, though as of writing, Sora from Kingdom Hearts is currently trending on Twitter. Personally, all of my picks are already as good as deconfirmed, so I’m just hoping for a pleasant surprise (and not a Fortnite character).
